For a lot of us, we’re heading (or right in the middle) of the coldest time of the year. For all of you out there saying “I live in Florida/California/anywhere that never see’s snow so this isn’t about me”, then I hate you. Just kidding. BUT it doesn’t mean it’ll never get chilly wherever you’re at, and who knows if you plan on visiting a cold weather location in the next 2-3 months. So whether you might just be seeing it temporarily, or you live right smack dab in the middle of it like me (shout out to my Michiganders!), here are my must-have winter wardrobe selections to get me thru the cold times - while still looking fashionable and not like the ice cube you feel like.
Dark pair of skinny jeans: these are my go-to when I am out on the weekends or a date night. They are obviously something people wear year round, but a nice dark park in the winter can go with evvvvvvvverything. You can wear tall boots with them, a baggy warm sweater, a tucked in turtle neck…they are the best.
Baggy sweaters: yes please all day! The baggy sweater, especially a nice cashmere one, is the best thing to wear all winter. They are super cute, keep you warm, and let you be so freaking comfortable. Here’s one from H&M I would recommend.
Wool beanie: I always feel I look weird in a beanie, but girl when you have your hair done all cute and down and you slip that thing on outside, you first stay nice and warm BUT it’s also a super adorable look! Love Your Melon is an awesome place to look - super comfortable beanies but more importantly they are committed to giving their hats to children battling cancer as well.
Knee high socks: literally all the socks I wear in the winter are knee high. Whether they are under my pants, over my workout pants, or just with my pj’s as I’m lounging around, they are always on. You can get a fashionable pair to peak out over your boots, or a fitness pair that goes with your workout attire. Either way, your feet and legs will stay a lot warmer because of them.
Long statement coat: one thing I do love about winter are the amazing coats for men and women! I prefer a nice long one to cover your bum and keep you warm, but the short puffy one’s are great too for that more casual look. My favorite this year has been the long tan wool or trench-coat style; my boyfriend got me one similar to this one and I love it.
Tall boots: I don’t think there needs to be a lot of explanation here. I love a good tall boot, Give it a heel, give it a wedge, or leave them flat - they are empowering!
Long knit jumper dress: these I love for work days or date night because they dress you up some while still keeping you warm. They typically are a little oversized (at least that’s how I like them), and look great with tights and a boot of some type. Here’s a super cute and super affordable example.
Scarves: these can either be for warmth OR for fashion. You have your thinner one’s to wear as an accent piece (perhaps with that jumper dress), or you have those nice plushy flannel ones to wear when you're battling the snow. Plus there are sooo many different ways to tie them. Scarves are a must.
A great turtleneck: done correctly, I think a turtleneck on both men and women can look very sleep. I prefer a more fitted one and typically a solid color. A sleek black turtleneck paired with those skinny jeans - you’re ready for the world.
Hopefully these sparked some ideas or outfit combinations for you this winter! Stay warm out there :)
