December Pet of the Month

December 31, 2019 Kelly Wanamaker

With only 1 day left of this month (and the year) I wanted to give my last 2019 pet of the month to a personal favorite of mine and probably a total bias opinion — MOREL! She’s my beautiful about to be 18 year old Selle Francais warmblood, who has been a Rockstar this year.

Why I specifically want to give a shout out to this fierce female right now (like she’ll even see this) is because our winters usually are not the most fun. She gets mad from not being able to run around outside when it’s too cold and the ground is frozen, she has tummy ulcers that bug her, and she’s really not a fan of winter (so we are the same there). With that said, our winter rides have in the past consisted of a lot her getting mad, bucking, kicking out, and just not feeling it very much. BUT so far this winter has been different…

I’ve been staying more consistent with at least 3-4 rides each week, which I think helps her energy a lot, but we also incorporated a few other techniques. She is now on a tummy/ulcer supplement every day which I think is taking away that pain A LOT. You have no idea how happy this makes her, and me. And I also per her on the beautiful theraplate (which is a ‘shake machine’ essentially for horses). This helps a lot of moving around what doesn’t get moved around, and I believe helps with built of energy or muscle tension as well. These 3 things all together have made her literally my super pony.

So here’s to you Morel! Happy 18th birthday and I look forward to so many more years with you :)

For anybody interested in looking at where they can ride - for fun or for lessons - near you, PLEASE message me as I know a lot of places in Michigan, but also in most of the Midwest, East Coast and some down South.

Where can I horseback ride at?!

It’s not all about just being cute here (but that is a major plus) - there are a lot of good benefits of having a proper bandana on your pet such as:
