Spring time can bring a lot of things - rain showers, flowers blooming, mud….dogs in mud…mud into your house. As a pet owner myself, spring time always is a challenge to me to keep both my pets and my house somewhat clean. Here are some spring cleaning tips I use that may help all you pet lovers out there as well during these dirty weeks!
Deodorize where you can: sprinkling baking soda over vacuum-able surfaces really helps to absorb all that unwanted pet odor. An additional point to this — you’re gonna need to vacuum a little more than usual….sorry about that!
Scrub a dub dub: really scrub the places you can that you otherwise don’t do often — this really applies to the cat people out there and their kitty litter boxes. Cleaning out the doodoo every day is great, but you need to do a full out wash and scrub when you can.
Damp up the unwanted dog hair: this might sound strange, but using a damp rubber glove or towel and running it over places with a lot of dog hair can help wad it up to get rid of it.
Look over their toys — especially if any go outside with them: it might be time for their favorites toys to either get a nice wash, or maybe even splurge to get some new ones for Fido if they are too ‘unpleasant’.
Remember their dinner plates: if you’re dog is getting in and out more during the spring, they are bringing some of that onto where they eat and drink as well. Run their dishes in the dishwasher a little more often to make sure everything is sanitary and frankly still smelling good.
Up your pet health game: you may need to take some grooming measures into your own hands to ensure your pet is staying as squeaky clean as they can during the springtime. This includes brushing their teeth a little more frequently, giving them some good brushes, and making sure their paws and underbelly are dried off when they are done playing — which will be a bonus for your house staying a little more dry :)
Check their collars: since this is basically their clothes when they are outside more, you’ll want to make sure you have a couple on hand to keep them sanitary.
Health happy: and as always, spring time brings more bugs and more diseases — speak with your vet to go over all the necessities you need to keep your pets happy and healthy at this time (flea and tick medicine, any allergy items, best food, etc.).
I know I definitely tend to look at these items a little more closely during the spring to try and keep my pets - and my home - as clean and safe as possible, so hopefully they help you out too! If you would like any recommendations of some of the products I use for any of these points, please let me know!
