Although this is my son’s second Christmas, he was only about 3 months old for his first one, so most of his Christmas gifts consisted of clothes, diapers, and wipes (which don’t get me wrong, I was VERY grateful for those things!). Now that he will be 15 months for Christmas this year, it’s been super fun thinking of some cool gifts for him since he is interacting so much with just about everything these days.
There are sooo many suggestions on-line on great gifts for your 1 year old, so I did some searching around for ideas. Here are just a couple of the items our little guy is going to get this year:
Fisher Price Corn Popper Walker - our guy is not quite walking around on his own yet, but he is trying so hard to! This pusher will be a great tool to help build up his strength & confidence as he starts walking around more — and the little corn poppers make it fun of course. We got ours at buybuy BABY, but Walmart & Target have it at great prices too
Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Piggy Bank - I really liked this gift because it’s something he can grow with & interact with for a long time. He loves putting things in things right now — blocks in things, rings in things, clothes in things…if there is something with an opening, he’ll stick something else in there (that’s another conversation on how all that goes…). But this little piggy comes with different numbered & colored coins that when you place them in the pig, the pig will sing songs or say phrases; he also does all of this when you press his nose and open the piggy bank up. There are two stages- the first stage is best for his age right now, very basic and full of songs, and the second stage is for when he is a little older and does more educational phrases like counting and such.
Interactive books - we love story time around here, and he’s getting more and more intrigued by the day. He definitely wants to interact when we read, so we got him 2 books that do just that. The Paw Patrol School Time Adventure Book has different pulls, tabs and wheels you can move around on each page; and the Blue's Clues Play Date with Blue book has different buttons that are associated with certain items & pictures on each page, so he is encouraged to match the right button with what is being mentioned on that page - connecting pictures with words and sounds! These are both great hands-on multi sensory reading options we think he’ll love.
Learning Resources Learn-a-lot Avocados - this is another gift that he can play with now and grow into it more as he gets older. There are 4 different avocado’s, in different colors with with these spinning faces inside with different emotions being displayed. First just getting hands-on with the different color toys & spinning the objects will help with those fine motor & color skills. As he gets older, the emotions on each avocado can help him express how he may be feeling at that time. I’m very excited to see how he grows with these!
Very Hungry Caterpillar Jack-in-the-Box - ok, I have to admit I kind of got this one for me because I love/hat these things! This may not be for every child, but my son loves anything ‘peek-a-boo’ related - even if it’s a little scary. He loves hide and go seek, he loves when things pop up on a screen or behind a counter…he just gets a kick out of it. I think he’ll oddly enough have a great time learning how to crank up the little box and seeing the caterpillar pop out. We have tried it out before, it’s definitely a very easy “pop” out, the caterpillar is super soft, and it’s as toddler friendly as it could be. I’d suggest getting the book too then if you haven’t already :)
Lastly, I threw in this adorable Disney Baby Mickey Christmas Sweater because I mean, it’s adorable. My son goes crazy for Disney and Mickey too, so he’ll actually like it as well — win-win! I found this at Target, but there’s actually a lot on eBay too if you’re into that!
He’s definitely still going to get the essentials this year too — and Grandma & Grandpa I’m sure have already spoiled him rotten with gifts — but I am so looking forward to actually seeing him start to unwrap some of his own gifts this year and get all excited!
Please share what awesome Christmas gift ideas you have gotten your little one’s - or even one’s that may have tanked (because let’s face it, making a toddler happy isn’t always a slam dunk). Hope some of these ideas may have helped you out if you were in a pickle!
